UW-Parkside seeking applicants for VISTA positions
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Center for Community Partnerships is seeking two AmeriCorps*VISTAs for 2012-2013. Founded in 1965, AmeriCorps*VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Both of the UW-Parkside positions are sponsored by Wisconsin Campus Compact (WiCC). The application deadline is Monday, April 23, 2012.

WiCC, UW-Parkside, Racine Kenosha Community Action Agency--This coordinator will work in a team environment, assisting current staff in expanding the development, capacity, sustainability, and outcomes of UW-Parkside's community based learning (CBL) programs and will begin implementation of a Campus Kitchens Project at UW-Parkside. The individual will also work closely with the Racine Kenosha Community Action Agency in developing curriculum and capacity for its new Community Kitchen housed at its Kenosha office and support a community wide effort to assess and develop a plan to address food insecurity in a holistic manner. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Maintaining, cultivating, and developing community involvement or partnerships with Campus Kitchens and other food related projects; assisting with the development, recruitment, and staffing of the VISTA Advisory Board; providing assistance and support to volunteers, CBL students, and faculty; monitoring media relations and dissemination of materials to the media; assisting with assessments, planning, and evaluations; matching and supporting UW-Parkside CBL projects for nonprofits addressing local food production, healthy eating, and food security. WiCC, UW Parkside Center for Community Partnerships (CCP), Racine Co. Workforce Development Center, Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha need a motivated individual to expand collaborative outreach efforts, mentoring, and workforce readiness training for Racine and Kenosha youth. The VISTA will serve as a liaison among partners with the goal of growing collaborative efforts to help increase academic achievement, educational attainment, and workforce readiness capacities for local youth. Various organizations and their stakeholders will benefit from this partnership to provide coordinated programming, services, and access to additional resources. The VISTA will be positioned half-time at the CCP to work closely with the university on new collaborative initiatives, and the remainder will be shared between the Racine Co. Workforce Development Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha to bring together a coalition of community organizations to address youth needs.
