Thursday was a great day to be a student leader or part of a UW-Parkside student organization. That's because Thursday was the day set aside to celebrate these groups at the 33rd Student Leadership Awards and Recognition Banquet held before a raucous student audience.
With Chancellor Debbie Ford and other campus administrators in attendance, the evening was emceed by Javier Luna and Sarah Raidbard.
"We are going to open the program tonight with a couple of awards that exemplify UW-Parkside's Hallmarks of Student Success, Academic Excellence, Inclusivity and Diversity, and Community Engagement," Raidbard said. She and Luna then introduced Julie Evans of Peer Health Educators who received the Outstanding Cumulative GPA by a member of a SUFAC Funded Organization honor (SUFAC is the Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee). The award for Outstanding Cumulative GPA by a member of an SOC Funded Organization was then given to Sierra West of the Parkside American Marketing Association (SOC is the Student Organizations Council).

Terri Portee, who was called the"glue that holds the Student Activities Office together," was honored with the unofficial title of Gamma Mamma by Gamma Alpha Omega.
The festivities were held in the University Ballroom of the Student Center.
