UW-Parkside, Ford to be honored by Mahone Fund
Civic and community leaders will celebrate a milestone Wednesday, April 25, as the Mahone Fund presents the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Chancellor Debbie Ford with the 2012 Signature Award. The ceremony takes place at the Todd Wehr Center at Carthage College with a reception starting at 5:45 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.
In the formative years of the Mahone Fund, UW-Parkside and the university's Center for Community Partnerships forged a collaborative alliance, matching university resources with the needs of youth and family service organizations. The university will be recognized for its commitment to use its expertise to fully embrace the Mahone Fund's mission to enrich the lives of children while empowering the next generation of leaders.
"For many years, UW-Parkside has provided significant leadership in the advancement of the Mahone Fund's efforts to embrace the academic pursuits of young students while creating a pathway for them to be successful," said Bryan Albrecht, president of the Mahone Fund. "I am thankful for their leadership in the community and their outstanding dedication to the legacy of Mary Lou and Arthur Mahone. Without their contribution, it would be more difficult to provide scholarships and other support for Kenosha."
Proceeds from this event benefit the Mahone Fund's Career Exploration Organization (CEO) initiative. CEO matches low to moderate income youth with a business mentor to develop and pursue their career goals. The program focuses on educational and career development and discusses the relationship between educational achievements, career planning, and community service. The mission of the Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Fund is to promote opportunities for economically or academically deserving youth and support breast and cervical cancer initiatives for economically disadvantaged women.
