Ford: SBT board a “model” for UW-Parkside

University of Wisconsin-Parkside Chancellor Debbie Ford would like to see the success of one citizen advisory panel repeated elsewhere on campus. Meeting Thursday, April 26, with the School of Business and Technology (SBT) Advisory Board, Ford said, "This board is a model we would like to replicate in our other colleges," referring to UW-Parkside's new four college structure. "It is important for each of our colleges to have the kind of strong leadership you, as board members, have shown."

The UW-Parkside School of Business and Technology will become the College of Business, Economics, and Computing in fall semester 2012. SBT Dean Dr. Fred Ebeid called the Economics Department "an important, and helpful, addition to the SBT." The Economics Department is currently part of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Recognition of Students

Advisory Board members had the chance to meet several student stars of the School of Business and Technology during the meeting when they were recognized for their award-winning scholarship. Board members received a project presentation from Chris McMahon and Trevor Severson on their research titled "Improving Health Care Delivery in the Department of Corrections." The project has drawn interest from state legislators and administrators for its potential to save significant amount sof taxpayer dollars.

The SBT also recognized new UW System Regent Tracy Hribar. Hribar, a UW-Parkside Business major, was appointed the system's non-traditional student regent by Gov. Scott Walker earlier this month. More information on Ms. Hribar's appointment is available on the university web site.

Other students recognized during Thursday's meeting included Dana Berglind and Nicole Zach who were recently honored by the Milwaukee Chapter of

Financial Executives International, David Sieraski who received a scholarship from the Wisconsin Chapter of the Society for Information Management, Joseph Cronin, a recent graduate who received the Racine Downtown Champion Award; and UW-Parkside Outstanding Graduate Award winner Sierra West.

"I had a number of advisory board members who came up to me after the meeting and said they couldn't believe how much the SBT has done since our last meeting in January," said Dean Ebeid. "One of them said we are really progressing as an institution and that he was impressed by the people who are currently on the SBT Advisory Board."

Early in Thursday's meeting, the board's membership got even stronger with the addition of UW-Parkside graduate James Kettinger. Kettinger is president and CEO of Kenosha-based equipment manufacturer IEA, Inc. He will be honored during UW-Parkside's May 12 commencement ceremony as the university's Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award recipient. Kettinger served as SBT's Executive In Residence during spring semester 2012.
The meeting closed with a changing of the guard. The SBT honored Jerry Uick upon the completion of his two years of service as Advisory Board Chair. He hands leadership of the board to new chair, and UW-Parkside graduate, John Schoenwaelder.
