UW-Parkside 2012 Commencement Saturday.

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside honors the class of 2012 during its spring commencement Saturday, May 12. Ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. for graduates receiving master's and bachelor of science degrees with a 2:30 p.m. celebration for bachelor of arts degree recipients. Both programs are in the De Simone Gymnasium of the Sports and Activity Center, Highways E and JR in Kenosha.

During the ceremonies, students will be addressed by Wisconsin's Poet Laureate Bruce Dethlefsen. A prolific writer, Dethlefsen has published four highly acclaimed books, his poems have been featured on Garrison Keillor's National Public Radio program "The Writer's Almanac," and he was selected as Poet of the Month by the web site "Your Daily Poem."

Prior to distribution of diplomas, UW-Parkside will honor two alumni, businessman James Kettinger and attorney Mark Nielsen, with Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards. Two other graduates, Dr. Thomas Lutz and mental health advocate Luann Simpson, will receive Distinguished Alumni Service Awards.

Also during the ceremonies, eight current students will receive Outstanding Graduate Awards. One of them from a group which includes Julia Anders, Marcus Bouterse, Dana Calamia, Mitchell Hughes, Emily Lumley, Anne Walaszek Sierra West, and Stephen Zambo will be named the Chancellor's Award recipient emblematic of the top student in the class of 2012.
