Celebrazione Italiana at UW-Parkside May 18. |
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside celebrates southeastern Wisconsin's and northern Illinois' deep-rooted Italian heritage during the 8th annual Celebrazione Italiana Friday, May 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Held in the University Ballroom of the Student Center, 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha, the evening's festivities are highlighted by honors for three of the region's most important cultural organizations.
Benefitting the university's Italian Student Exchange Program, the celebration raises funds that allow students from the Somers campus to study in Italy and Italian students to attend UW-Parkside. The university has an active exchange agreement with the University of Calabria in Cosenza, Italy.
During the evening, the university honors the Calabresi In America Organization (CIAO), a non-profit charitable and social association that preserves the traditions and culture of Calabrese ethnicity for future generations.
Two bastions of Italian heritage in southeastern Wisconsin--the Italian-American Club of Kenosha and Racine's Roma Lodge--are also honored during the evening. The IA Club is a central gathering point of fellowship, cultural exchange, education, and celebration for Italian Americans.
The Roma Lodge serves people of Italian descent and the larger community by supporting charitable, educational, and cultural activities that build knowledge and pride in the region's Italian heritage.
The evening begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. A silent auction and a raffle are held to benefit scholarships.
Tickets for Celebrazione Italiana are $65 and can be reserved by calling Connie Degneau at 262-595-2443 or by accessing degneau@uwp.edu via email.
