May 14-18: No steam on campus
Routine maintenance and system repair will mean no steam for heating and other uses during the week of May 14-18, 2012. Facilities Management asks that you plan accordingly.
Boilers will be shut down at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 13, and will restart at 9 a.m. Friday, May 18. Because restoring steam pressure is a slow process, pressure is expected to build over the weekend with normal operations fully restored by Monday May 21.
The outage means steam will not be available in Molinaro, Greenquist, Wyllie, and Tallent halls, in the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities, the Student Center, the Ranger Hall residence, at Facilities Management, the Sports and Activity Center (SAC), and the Animal Care facility. This will result in no hot water for autoclaving, swimming pool heat, showers in the SAC and Ranger Hall, room heating, food preparation, or any other process that requires steam.
"Please remember that the loss of steam reheat affects our ability to control room temperatures," cautioned Heating & Chilling Plant Superintendent Dale Lovejoy. "In other words, it might be cold in your office or classroom. Please dress appropriately, in layers!"
Lovejoy added everyone's patience is greatly appreciated and he asked that he be contacted with any concerns.
