SNAP recap: 2012 Gala a success
By Kelsey Hoff
On March 23, 2012, area residents gathered at Racine's Roma Lodge for the SNAP Gala and to raise money for the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety (WAFS) Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth. The Student Nurses at Parkside's (SNAP) yearly event brought in $3,000 through raffles, donations, and the sale of about 150 tickets.
Donors at the event enjoyed cocktails and dinner; they also heard from WAFS officials, participated in raffles and silent auctions, and danced the night away.
The camp is open to young people ages 7-17 years who have endured significant burn injuries. It provides for the unique needs of burn injured youth while they have fun, build relationships, and move to a phase of life beyond their injuries.
Past recipients of funds from the SNAP Gala are the March of Dimes, the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, the Southeastern Wisconsin Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kenosha Community Health Center, and Southeastern Wisconsin Special Olympics.
