UW-Parkside scholar-athletes honored by GLVC
The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) recently honored dozens of UW-Parkside student athletes for their success in the classroom. Conference academic honors were given both to individuals and teams following the completion of the 2011-2012 seasons.
Four students: Hope Christie (women's cross country/track & field), Sam Katula (men's basketball), Adrian Magana (men's soccer), and Amy Selk (women's basketball)
received the Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Awards for being among the conference's top student-athletes.
For the second consecutive year, the Ranger women's basketball team was honored by the GLVC with a team academic award. Coach Jenny Knight-Kenesie's crew compiled an impressive 3.48 team grade point average to go along with its second straight NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" appearance.
Along with Christie, Katula, Magana, and Selk, 58 other UW-Parkside student athletes earned conference academic honors. They were named to Academic All-GLVC teams for 2011-2012. Their names and details about the other award winners are available now on the athletic department web site.
