"I had a great time in both parades. I look forward to that each year."
UW-Parkside Alumni Association President Jim Kramer, expressing himself in a recent email to Chancellor Debbie Ford, clearly enjoyed the Independence Day celebrations in Kenosha and Racine, and he wasn't alone. Dozens of UW-Parkside marchers joined the chancellor, Ranger Bear, and Jim in Kenosha on July 1 and in Racine on July 4 to honor America on the occasion of its 236th birthday.
"Thank you for going above and beyond, despite your other pressing responsibilities, to ensure our 4th of July parades were a success. I extend my sincere appreciation and recognition for an excellent job in helping to make these events possible," Chancellor Ford said in an email to participants. Who are we...we are Rangers! And now everybody in Kenosha and Racine knows about Ranger pride, thanks to you."
Some Ranger reps marched on Sunday afternoon in Kenosha; some paraded Wednesday morning in Racine, while a few (those noted with an asterisk) braved the heat both days. Parade participants were: Julie Bavetz, Patricia Briggs, Terry Brown, Dana Calamia, Hope Christie, Connie Degneau*, David Diaz, Jesus Escareno, Tamie Falk-Day, Ford*, Stephanie Gemino, Karen and Hailey Grabher, Rose and Liliana Grinder-Mondragon, Walter Gutierrez, John Jaraczewski*, Johnny Jaraczewski, Liliana Jaraczewski, Kim Kelley, Carol and Luke Kinsley, Kramer*, Jordania Leon-Jordan*, Scott Lewis, Matt, Gina, and Maggie Makarios; Catherine and Luca Mantuano, Eric and Payton Metzger, John Mielke, Patricia Morgan, Gary Nephew, Peppy O'Neill*, Ben Orvold, Tanveer Patil, Stephanie Romic, Carmel, Amelia, and Leo Ruffolo; Shelley Serota, Luann Simpson, Gary Smith, Anna, David, Fred, Nella, and Zoe Steinmetz; Charlie and Sunny Stevenson, Connie Wheeler, and Dean Yohnk.
In addition, Mary Nelson drove the UW-Parkside shuttle bus in both parades and Dave Olsen drove the Ford Mustang convertible which was supplied on both days by Anthony Porcaro. Our UW-Parkside photos were taken by students Elmer Golon and Spencer Karczewski.
Others people and groups who helped making both events a success were John Costigan, Creative Services, Jenny Cronin, Mike Haubrich, Jim Heller, Pam LeClaire, and Chris Miller from University Police & Public Safety; Pete Henkes, Dave Light; Chef Joe Minneci, John Nelson, and John Sill of catering; Stephanie Sirovatka-Marshall, Pat Soens, Karen Sorensen, and Dave Buchanan.
Thanks to everyone who made the UW-Parkside Independence Day entries a huge community success.
In the photo, Chancellor Debbie Ford led the UW-Parkside Parade Corps both in Kenosha, shown here, and in Racine. Check Colors of the Day for more parades pics!
