It was a perfect day to be selling fruit smoothies: sunny and hot?very hot. And the UW-Parkside alumni crew manning our tent at the 2012 Relay for Life of Kenosha sold smoothies by the gallon! Proceeds went to a great cause.

An estimated 4,000 area residents spent part of their Friday night and Saturday morning at UW-Parkside's outdoor track along Highway E at the American Cancer Society event which ran from 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. Relay gave Kenosha residents the chance to celebrate the lives of people who have successfully battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

We are happy to report that the UW-Parkside Alumni Team not only reached its fund raising goal, they exceeded it! The team of James McPhaul, Rich and Heather Miles, Gary Nephew, and James Stephens raised $1,280, beating their $1,000 goal.

Relay for Life co-chair Rael Szulc said the move to UW-Parkside as the event site had taken the Relay to a new level. She thanked Director of Athletics Tamie Falk-Day and police officer Kurt Bergendahl for their work in making the event a major success.
