The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has announced the selection of more than a dozen people to serve as Stand Out Students for the 2012-2013 academic year. Chosen from 70-plus nominees, the students will serve as the public faces of the campus for the coming year.
"We had a difficult task narrowing down the list to just 13 students. We wanted to make sure that the group chosen represented the diverse nature of the UW-Parkside community. In this case, the definition of 'diversity' expands to includes majors, gender, age, ethnicity, and types of engagement," said DeAnn Possehl, UW-Parkside associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management.
The 2012-2013 UW-Parkside Stand Out students are:
Ruba Abdallah
Gonzalo Cabiro
Jelena Djurdjic
Brandon Ghislain
Dominica Jaramillo
Alyssa Kay
Karisa Laskowski
Tyler Penrod
Kiah Simon
Keona Thompson
Sierra West
Dee Yang
Joseph Young
To be selected, students must excel academically and demonstrate their commitment to "stand out" as a UW-Parkside student. Students demonstrate their engagement in a variety of ways including academic research, community based projects, athletics, and student leadership.
