Getting financial aid questions answered

As you can imagine, this is the busiest time of the year for the UW-Parkside Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid. Director Randy McCready said in a recent email more than $11 million has been posted to student accounts for fall semester 2011.

McCready is asking for the help of faculty and staff so Scholarships & Financial Aid can assist as many students as possible during fall semester crunch time.

"Our call volume has significantly increased," he stated, "and while we try to answer every phone call, many people are calling other offices because they cannot get through to us."

For faculty and staff who find themselves in this situation, McCready offered some suggestions on ways to help our students:

  • When a student asks: "When am I getting my refund?" which is the most frequently asked question at this time of the year, let them know refunds are being posted to Ranger Choice accounts
  • Direct students to their SOLAR accounts; this is the source for information most students are looking for
  • And please refrain from forwarding calls to Financial Aid office numbers other than extension 2574.

McCready said if faculty and staff can get answers and get back to students on Scholarships & Financial Aid's behalf, "that, too, will be a big help. Your help and patience are deeply appreciated during this very busy time of year."
