UW-Parkside named “Military Friendly School”

Victory Media, publisher of "G.I. Jobs," has named the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to its 2013 Military Friendly Schools ® list. Now in its fourth year of publication, the Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

"We are honored to be named a Military Friendly School and to have the opportunity to educate the men and women who have served our country," said DeAnn Possehl, UW-Parkside's associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management. "Our veterans give so much to protect and defend our country. And the university is constantly working to improve the services, programs, and financial assistance available to vets. It's gratifying to have those efforts recognized at the national level."

Possehl added there are 206 enrolled vets at UW-Parkside for fall semester 2012.

Victory Media Vice President and "G.I. Jobs" Director Sean Collins said being named to the list indicates UW-Parkside's ongoing efforts on behalf of vets.

"Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools shows the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," Collins stated. "As interest in education grows, we're thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools."

Some 1,739 colleges, universities, and trade schools were named to the list for their leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience. The schools have, according to Victory media, "world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility, and other services to those who served."
