The most anticipated event of the semester is finally here?UW-Parkside's Fall Fest: Circus Spectacular! The week-long event, filled with unbelievable performances and yummy treats, concludes with the university's first-ever campus carnival in the Student Center parking lot Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon-6 p.m. Families are not only welcomed but encouraged to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event with their students.

Sarah Raidbard, associate student services coordinator, talked about the unique ability this event has to merge the university with its surrounding communities. Faculty and students are encouraged to bring members of the community to our campus for this seasonal celebration. And with the parking lot transformed, it is sure to draw a great deal of interest.

"Members of the community are, of course, welcome," she explained. "We want to be able to engage with the community."

Fall Fest is part of Residence Life's "Lil' Sibs" weekend and the newly established Parents and Families Day. Event organizers wanted to specifically incorporate families by bringing them to campus to take part in activities and get a feel for what college life here at UW-Parkside is all about.

The carnival offers face painting, games and prizes, professional circus performers, and tasty treats, all for free! Plus, two full-sized rides will be brought in, making this event larger-than-life.

Raidbard expects the event to attract as many as 500 attendees.

"It's a fun theme," she stated, "It will be a big attraction."

This is a long-awaited event for students, who have expressed their desire to hold a carnival for some time.

Fall Fest activities take place Oct. 1-6 throughout the campus. A complete list of this week's events is on the university web site.
