Three questions with DeAnn Possehl

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management is DeAnn Possehl. Although her title is new, DeAnn is not new to the job, or the university, having previously served as Interim Director of Enrollment Management. Other titles she has held here include Director of Student Life, Director of (Student) Union Activities, and Director of Residence Life during her more than 20 year tenure with UW-Parkside. Ranger Today asked Possehl about her vision for admissions, priorities for this semester, and what she enjoys most about leading Enrollment Management.

Ranger Today: What opportunities do you see for UW-Parkside?

Possehl: When I think about what opportunities I see for UW-Parkside, I think about:

• The opening of "The Rita" which allows for us to grow our already outstanding Arts and Humanities programs at UW-Parkside;
• The new teacher certification program opening in the fall of 2013 creates many new opportunities;  
• The new academic plan and its implementation will significantly impact student recruitment and retention particularly related to new program development, new teaching modalities and new audiences; and
• The web site redesign project will have a significant impact on UW-Parkside's image and visibility.

All of these will significantly shape the future of UW-Parkside.

RT: What are your top priorities this semester?

Possehl: Promoting student success to graduation and increasing UW-Parkside visibility will guide my priorities in this position. For the fall, I'm focusing my energy on implementing a new campus wide advising model, developing a strategic enrollment plan, working on web site redesign, and continuing to implement process improvements related to international admission and graduation. All of these efforts will require working collaborative with many areas of the institution.

RT: What is the best part of your job?

Possehl: I enjoy this position because it requires me to work collaboratively with almost every area of the institution while regularly using my strengths in project management, process improvement, and problem resolution. I also find the potential impact of my work on student success highly motivating.
