Student organizations address domestic violence

By Samantha Savaglio

Sisters in Action and Men of Excellence organizations will present "Face It! Domestic Violence Awareness" in the Student Center Cinema Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. The program, sponsored by UW-Parkside Radio-WIPZ and Black Student Union, will establish awareness on domestic violence against women, a serious threat that cannot be tolerated.

Domestic Violence is a complicated and uncomfortable issue that is often not spoken about in public. These organizations recognize the importance of making it a public issue in order to prevent its progression. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend.

Guest speaker, Nancy Hofstetter, the domestic violence program coordinator of Women's and Children's Horizons, will discuss the topic. A video on 2011 domestic violence statistics follows, along with a performance by Sisters In Action and Men of Excellence dramatically capturing these shocking statistics. In conclusion, an open discussion will be held on how to better handle the situations when involved or observed.
