Tuesday Concert: Community Band and Wind Ensemble

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Community Band and Wind Ensemble, conducted by Mark Eichner, are in concert Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. Featuring music by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Morton Gould, and others, the concert takes place in the Frances Bedford Concert Hall of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities.
"The Wind Ensemble features music by Ottorino Respighi in an arrangement of his 'Ancient Airs and Dances' and 'October' by Los Angeles composer Eric Whitacre," said Eichner who noted Whitacre has received numerous awards and commissions from ASCAP, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Barlow Competition. "Malcolm Arnold's second set of 'English Dances,' seldom heard in the United States, and Ithaca College composer Dana Wilson is featured in a performance of the jazz-influenced 'SANG!'"
Eichner said the Community Band, featuring citizen musicians from southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, performs a transcription of Bach's organ masterwork "Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor." In addition, Vincent Persichetti's "Bagatelles" and Gould's "Ballad for Band" are on the Community Band's playlist.
The Community Band and Wind Ensemble then combine for a performance of the "Kazahk Dance" from "The Slippers," Tchaikovsky's only comic opera.
Admission is this evening of exceptional music is $8 for adults and $4 for senior, students, and faculty and staff.
