Our Art Department colleague Lisa Marie Barber is asking for your help to make Winter Commencement 2012 a success. This year's ceremony is Sunday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. in the De Simone Gymnasium of the Sports and Activity Center (SAC).

"Marshals help make commencement ceremonies run smoothly by checking in graduates, leading them to and from their seats, and to and from the stage to receive their diplomas," Barber said in a recent email to campus. "[The] ceremony lasts 1-2 hours. If you have your own academic regalia, you can wear that, or we can lend you a beautiful green robe."

In addition to being fun and giving you that feeling of accomplishment when you see one of your students march across the stage to accept the diploma, Barber said serving as a marshal gains you "those very important 'service points' for your annual summary."

Marshals are asked to arrive at the Sports and Activity Center between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Everyone will meet in the Petretti Fieldhouse.

"Please let me know by Thursday, Nov. 1, if you're willing to serve," Barber said, "and I will give you all the fancy extra details." Call Barber at ext. 2707 or access LisaMarie.Barber@uwp.edu by email.
