This Week @ UW-Parkside: Civil War, Blagg Magic!
Wednesday, Nov. 7: Friends of the UW-Parkside Library presents "If a collection could talk: A pictorial tour of the Civil War Museum," with Museum Curator Doug Dammann, 7 p.m., Overlook Lounge, second floor of the UW-Parkside Library. Dammann offers a virtual tour of the gallery and collection of Kenosha's Civil War Museum highlighting the history and significance of a number of pieces held by the museum. He also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the techniques and technology used to create the museum's Fiery Trial Gallery. You may even get a sneak preview of what may become the museum's showpiece exhibit. A 13-year veteran of the museum field, Dammann worked at the Illinois State Historical Library, the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, and the National Air and Space Museum before moving to Kenosha in 2007 to become curator of the Civil War Museum. Admission is free.
Saturday, Nov. 10: Arts Alive! presents "The Magic of Bill Blagg," 7:30 p.m., Main Stage Theatre, Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities. Bill Blagg fell in love with magic when he received a beginner's magic kit at the ripe old age of five years in his hometown of Zion, Illinois. His first performances took place before his classmates and teachers at Beulah Park Elementary School. Now, a few years later, the Magic of Bill Blagg LIVE! is the most entertaining magic and illusion show on tour today! Filled with mind-blowing, never-before-seen illusions, Bill combines his magic with audience participation, comedy and of his trademark off-the-cuff personality to create a show unlike anything you've ever seen before! Friday, Nov. 9: the Parkside International Club presents the Diwali Festival of Lights, 6 p.m., Student Center Ballroom. Enjoy an authentic evening of Indian culture and cuisine during this celebration of wealth and happiness. Diwali features a traditional Indian prayer and a presentation on the meaning of Diwali followed by an authentic Indian dinner. After the meal, there are fascinating performances of traditional Indian dances and great music. Tickets for the Diwali Festival of Lights are $10 for all students, $15 for UW-Parkside faculty, and $20 for the public. Order tickets online by visiting www.uwp.edu keyword tickets.
Wednesday, Nov. 7: the Health, Exercise Science, and Sport Management Department presents Drills for Thrills, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., UW-Parkside Quad. We're tmaking fitness fun!
