UW-Parkside student receives nursing scholarship

UW-Parkside Nursing student Toyin Olukotun is a few financial steps closer to her degree. She recently received a scholarship from the Racine/Kenosha chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA).

The National Black Nurses Association offers the scholarships to students of African-American descent. Olukotun, a native of Nigeria, met the organization's requirements of currently enrollment in a nursing program, a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and a willingness to be an active member of the NBNA's Racine/Kenosha chapter.

To be considered, applicants needed to supply two letters of support: one from a UW-Parkside faculty member in the nursing program and another from a family member, clergy, community organization, or social club. A current official transcript was also required. 

The scholarship was presented at the Racine/Kenosha National Black Nurses Association banquet held Saturday, Sept. 22.

Olukotun, along with fellow UW-Parkside nursing major Florine Ndakuya, were featured earlier this year in a Ranger Today article titled "Nursing students shine in Lone Star State."
