Runners go cross country to NCAAs; soccer honors

A pair of UW-Parkside cross country runners will compete for national titles while a trio of women's soccer players collected awards while preparing for a title run of their own. Runners Evan Lewandowski and Jessica Watychowicz will go to nationals at Joplin, MO; and Lauki'i Cheng, Megan Owens, and Emily Konior each were honored for their football skills by the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

Lewandowski, competing at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Saturday at UW-Parkside, ran the 10,000-meter race in 31 minutes, 20 seconds to finish fifth. Watychowicz completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:19 and fourth. Both will spend Saturday, Nov. 17, at the NCAA Division II Championships being held at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.

The GLVC's women's soccer All-Conference teams had plenty of green and white prominently displayed. Lauki'i Cheng was a First Team selection as a defender, closing her career as a four-time All-GLVC honoree. Megan Owens and Emily Konior both were selected for the GLVC Third Team.
All three will be with the Rangers team that travels to Quincy, Illinois, Friday. Coach Troy Fabiano's team will face William Jewel College in a first-round NCAA tournament game. The winner takes on host and GLVC champion Quincy.
