Today: Alumnus to share professional experience

By Samantha Savaglio

UW-Parkside Sports and Fitness Management Club will be hosting a guest speaker today, Nov 7, in SAC L153 from noon-1 p.m. as part of their mission to network students with members of the community who have valuable and applicable experience.

Ryan Moede, Box Office Manager at Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and alumnus of UW-Parkside, will be discussing his career in sports and his transition from a student to the manager of the front office of this year's Midwest League Champions.

Moede has been honored with an Academic Achievement Award, given to students who are the best in their classes in terms of grade point average and other intellectual pursuits, in 2009. His professional experiences include a Corporate Marketing Intern for the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club and the Ticket Sales Representative for the Sacramento River Cats.

Bill Miller, Associate Professor in the Health, Exercise Science, and Sport Management Department, was both Moede's advisor and professor in several classes. "He was an outstanding student with great drive and dedication," he states.

Miller encourages students to attend the event, saying that they will "[learn] about the steps along the way and the effort that is necessary to both start and maintain a career in sports."

"I am not surprised by his success at all," Miller says, "He has a very bright future in front of him."

Once again, this event will be held Today, Nov,. 7, from noon-1 p.m. in SAC L153. It is free and open to all students.
