Michele Gee named CBEC’s Interim Associate Dean
The College of Business, Economics, and Computing (CBEC) at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside has named current Business Department Chair Dr. Michele Gee its Interim Associate Dean. CBEC Interim Dean Dirk Baldwin said Dr. Gee was selected for this position after consultation with, and strong recommendations from, her colleagues.
"[Dr. Gee's] accomplishments as department chair, service to the university, and her commitment to frequent and open communication were often cited as reasons for their endorsement," Baldwin said in an email to campus.
Baldwin cited Dr. Gee's "distinguished record of service" that included chairing the Faculty Senate Budget Committee and her long-time membership on the Academic Planning Committee. She was co-director of a half million dollar community economic development program implemented with a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.
Dr. Gee's administrative experience includes service as Assistant to the Provost from 2004-2006 and serving as co-director of the Center for International Studies. She was selected as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow in 2006-7. In this executive training program, she was mentored by the president and the provost of Chicago's DePaul University.
In congratulating Dr. Gee, Music Professor James Kinchen said, "You bring a strong, impressive portfolio of accomplishments and qualifications to this post!"
Communication Professor Jonathan Shailor said the College of Business, Economics, and Computing is in good hands. "I have no doubt?CBEC will be well-served!" he stated.
In the classroom, Dr. Gee specializes in strategic management and international business. She has used her expertise to assist non-profits and other organizations in the region. She is also an outstanding teacher, and consistently receives very high student evaluations in her courses.
Her appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2013.
