UW-Parkside Orchestra, Choirs ‘Ode to Joy” Dec. 2

The Frances Bedford Concert Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside will be filled with joyous music and song Saturday, Dec. 1, with a performance of Beethoven's beloved "Ode to Joy." Maestro Alvaro Garcia brings the UW-Parkside Community Orchestra, Symphony, and Camerata together with the UW-Parkside Chorale and Master Singers for a magnificent evening of music beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Bedford Concert Hall is located in the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities, 900 Wood Rd., Kenosha.

Professor Garcia said Beethoven's choice of Friedrich Schiller's words from the poem "Ode to Joy" embodies the true collaborative nature of the UW-Parkside Music Department. "When we all sing and hear the lyrics 'all men become brothers' and 'Be embraced, you million! Here is a kiss for all the world!' we forget the challenges in life and become united through the power of words and music."

The concert, which celebrates the Community Orchestra's 10th anniversary, also features baroque selections from Georg Philipp Telemann and Arcangelo Corelli. It will be one of the final programs of UW-Parkside's Year of the Arts and Humanities which celebrates the opening of "The Rita."

The concert is open to the public. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. For tickets and more information, call the UW-Parkside Box Office at 262-595-2564.
