Tell your students (& attend) Thursday flu clinics
There's no "good time" to get the flu but one of the worst times to get it is during final exams. To keep your students--and you--healthy, the UW-Parkside Student Health & Counseling Center offers flu clinics in three locations Thursday Dec. 6.
Director Sandy Leicht said the Student Health & Counseling Center hosts clinics from 2-4:30 p.m. on the Student Center Bridge, in Pike River Suites, and in the Sports and Activity Center. The vaccine is $5 for students, $20 for faculty, staff, family, and friends.
Leicht said "significant increases" in flu activity in the U.S. in the last two weeks indicate an early flu season is underway. Officials at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) say when influenza hits this year, it's likely to hit hard.
"Although the course of every flu season is unpredictable, [with] this year's early start and the specific influenza subtypes circulating, this could be a bad year," said CDC Director Thomas Frieden.National Influenza Vaccination Week started Saturday and runs through Dec. 8. The CDC and the UW-Parkside Student Health & Counseling Center say, if you have not done so already, get a flu vaccination this season. And stay healthy for finals!
