Business Management major Julie Evans is the 2012 University of Wisconsin-Parkside Winter Commencement student speaker. She addresses her peers during the ceremony Sunday, Dec. 16, starting at 1 p.m.

Evans was selected to speak in recognition of her exceptional academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and her ongoing campus involvement.

Academically, Evans is an honors student and a multiple scholarship winner.

She graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with concentrations in Marketing and Human Resources. She earned a Global Skills Certificate. Evans earned Provost List honors three years in a row and membership in the Beta Sigma Gamma business honor society and Alpha Mu Alpha for marketing.

A recipient of the university's Dr. Steve McLaughlin Student Leader Scholarship for fall semester 2012, Evans served as marketing coordinator in the Student Activities Office. There she led the marketing of seven major campus events and established a social media presence that attracted 1,000 viewers weekly. She also served as director of programming for the Parkside American Marketing Association.

Through her commitment as a Peer Health Educator, Evans and her fellow PHE members helped students make healthy choices. She was the organization's Team Captain this year, leading PHE members Jasmine Anderson, Colleen Cummings, Karisa Laskowski, Florine Ndakuya, DJ Polzin, Jayk Retasket, and Valencia Williamson as they conducted 20 student health-related programs during fall semester. The national BACCHUS Network recently named PHE a top student health program in the country; comparable to programs at Northwestern University and Harvard. The same organization named Evans a 2012 Outstanding Student.

As a First-Year Experience Mentor, Evans helped students successfully transition to college life with 91 percent of FYE students passing their required courses. She also

served as a Ranger Welcome Leader every year. Evans helped motivate our new students and get them excited about attending UW-Parkside.

"That experience is really important to me," she said.

UW-Parkside Winter Commencement takes place in the De Simone Gymnasium of the Sports and Activity Center.
