UW-P, Gateway offer General Studies dual admission
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Gateway Technical College are offering dual admission for qualifying students in a "1-plus-3" General Studies certificate program. Students register at Gateway, take the equivalent of 1 year of general education courses and have dual enrollment at UW-Parkside to finish a major of the students' choice during the next 3 years.
UW-Parkside Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management DeAnn Possehl said the General Studies certificate program aligns with the university's mission to provide accessible, affordable education.
"We were looking for alternatives for students who need to improve their academic skills and Gateway provides that alternative. Dual admission allows us to assist some students financially," Possehl said. "Following completion of the certificate program at Gateway, students have guaranteed admission to UW-Parkside."
Students earn a specific number and type of general studies credits approved by Gateway and UW-Parkside to meet certificate and transfer agreement requirements.
Possehl called the certificate program another option for students to obtain a four-year degree. They can also apply general studies credits toward a Gateway associate degree, or earn a Gateway associate degree and transfer to UW-Parkside in program areas with 2-plus-2 transfer agreements.
The "1-plus-3" General Studies certificate program begins in spring semester 2013.
