UW-Parkside honors King’s journey & dream Jan. 25

This year's Martin Luther King celebration is Jan. 25.

"The Journey and The Dream" of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., are celebrated Friday, Jan. 25 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Featuring musical performances, words of inspiration, and the presentation of awards to student and community leaders, this extraordinary evening begins at 7 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities. The campus is located at 900 Wood Rd., Kenosha. Admission is free.

"This is the university's opportunity to honor Dr. King by honoring the people who share his vision and work each day to achieve his mission," said UW-Parkside Office of Multicultural Student Affairs Director Damian Evans. "The community members we will celebrate are laying the foundations to realize Dr. King's dream."

University of Wisconsin-Parkside students Sandra Gomez and Devin Cook will host the evening's festivities. They will be joined on stage by fellow students and entertainers Shar'mane Martin, Valencia Williamson, and Andre Holland.

Evans said a major highlight of the program is the announcement of the 2013 Community Service Award recipient. The 2012 Community Service Award winner was Maria Morales. 

The Martin Luther King celebration "The Journey and The Dream" is free and open to the public. For more information, call 262-595-2731.
