Call for nominations: Women of Color Award

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Center for Women's and Gender Studies and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion seek nominations for the UW System Outstanding Women of Color in Education Awards. The awards are given to women who have:

  • Worked in women's studies scholarship and activism, serving to improve the status and climate for women, particularly for women of color;
  • Advocated for women, particularly women of color;
  • Consistently demonstrated the ability to rally diverse forces together to advance the agenda of women, particularly that of women of color; and
  • Created positive changes at the institutional level, i.e., curriculum development and infusion, receiving grants, and mentoring women; and/or demonstrated an understanding of the interplay of family and community and culture in the lives of women of color.

One honoree is to be selected from our campus. She will be recognized during the joint Wisconsin Women's Studies Conference and the LGBTQ Conference Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 on the UW-Madison campus. Recent UW-Parkside award recipients include Mary Xiong, in 2012, April Puryear in 2011, Fay Akindes in 2010, and Maria Martinez in 2009.

Nominees can be students, faculty, staff, or community members. Nominate another person or nominate yourself by completing a one-page summary explaining why the nominee's contributions to diversity and women's studies merit this award.

More information can be found on the Women's Studies Consortium web site.

All nominations must be typed and emailed to twyman@uwp.edu before Feb. 8, 2013.
