Arts Alive! brings Ballet Folklorico to campus, Feb 8.

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Arts Alive! cultural series returns Friday, Feb. 8, with the color and passion of Ballet Folklorico Mexico de Los Hermanos Avila. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities, located at 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha.

"What I love about Ballet Folklorico is the passion and fire they bring to the stage when they present their story through dance," said Arts Alive Director Stephanie Sirovatka-Marshall. "And the traditional costumes are brilliantly colorful and opulent. They add a wonderful element to the show."

Since its founding by Jesus Avila and his sister Carmen in 1973, the Ballet Folklorico Mexico de Los Hermanos Avila has introduced audiences to fascinating folklore and magnificent ceremonial rituals from the Mexican regions of Veracruz and Tamaulipas. The troupe has done this with lavish, flamboyant costumes and flowing headdresses.

Recognized throughout the United States and Mexico as one of the most exciting groups presenting the authentic regional dances of Mexico, through Ballet Folklorico, audiences discover the folklore of the Aztecs, the romantic lyrics of the Mariachi's, and the heroes of the Mexican Revolution.

Tickets for Ballet Folklorico are $25.50 for adult, $21 for students. For tickets, visit www.uwparksidetickets.com or call 262-595-2307.
