Community Band spring rehearsals start Feb. 14

Community Band rehearsals begin tonight.

Community Band rehearsals begin tonight.

Entering its 23rd year of performances, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Community Band invites area musicians to join the ensemble. Led by conductor Mark Eichner, weekly rehearsals begin Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Two concerts are scheduled for spring semester and new members are welcome in all sections.

Calling the Community Band "an outlet for adult musicians' artistic expression," Eichner said dedication to attending rehearsals is vital.

"The band has set high performance standards for itself and to meet these standards, a commitment to practice is expected," Eichner stated, adding, "we perform quality music from all style periods simply for the pleasure and satisfaction of music-making."

Community Band repertoire includes traditional and modern-era band music, orchestral transcriptions, marches, and theater music. Spring semester concerts are scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, May 2.

Rehearsals are held Thursdays from 7 to 9:15 p.m. in room D-184 of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities. Performances are held in the acoustically perfect Frances Bedford Concert Hall.

Musicians can participate on a no-fee, no-credit basis; university credit is also available. Instrumentalists new to the Community Band are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m. for an orientation session.
