Wednesday: T&L Center presents Lauren Smith on PLA

The UW-Parkside Teaching and Learning Center welcomes UW-Whitewater's Dr. Lauren Smith, chair of Women's Studies and coordinator of the Credit for Prior Learning Program (PLA) Wednesday at noon in the Student Center Hickory Room. PLA encompasses various means of granting credit to students for college-level learning occurring outside of the classroom, i.e. workplace training, military service, and while running family businesses. Dr. Smith shares her experiences developing a prior learning assessment program for her campus.

PLA has been shown to increase retention and graduation rates among non-traditional students. And while it complements a number of college programs, it is especially well suited to those that are interdisciplinary and/or competency-based.

Admission is free and light refreshments are served.
