Athletics: Reigel, Saffold, Slivka honored by GLVC

After being picked by league coaches to finish tied for sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) East Division, UW-Parkside captured the division title and completed a near sweep of all major postseason awards.
GLVC Coach of the Year Luke Reigel was honored by his peers, primarily for his mentoring of GLVC Player of the Year Jeremy Saffold and co-Freshman of the Year Andy Mazurczak. Kentucky Wesleyan College newcomer Lucas Barker prevented the clean sweep by the Rangers as he picked up the other half of the Freshman of the Year award. The Rangers' Zygimantas Riauka and Colt Grandstaff received Second-Team All-Conference honors and Riauka made the conference All-Defensive Team.
The men open postseason play against Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2013 GLVC Tournament in Evansville, Ind. More information is on the athletics web site.
Danielle Slivka earned Second Team All-Conference honors while she, Jaleesa Trussell, and Sierra West all landed a spot of the All-Defensive Team when the Great Lakes Valley Conference released its women's basketball postseason award winners. Slivka tallies her first career All-GLVC award and All-Defensive Team honor after leading the Rangers in rebounding and finishing third on the team in scoring,
The Rangers return to action Friday against Quincy University at 8:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament held in Evansville, Ill. Check the UW-Parkside web site for details.
