The Arts Alive! cultural series presents violinist William Knuth and guitarist Adam Levin, collectively known as Duo Sonidos, in concert Thursday, March 21, 2013. Starting at 7:30 p.m., this evening of contemporary classical music is held in the Main Stage Theatre of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities.
"I would describe their music as alternating between fiery, passionate, and beautifully melodic," said Arts Alive! director Stephanie Sirovatka-Marshall. "Knuth provides the fire with a virtuoso performance on violin, Levin's guitar practically lights up the theatre with passion when he plays. Together, they have a wonderful sound that I think people are really going to like."
Sirovatka-Marshall said the group's name Duo Sonidos is a play on the Spanish word for sound. The word "sonidos" when broken apart becomes "son dos," meaning "there are two."
Knuth has earned recognition as a solo and chamber musician. Performing throughout the U.S. and Europe, he has played with leading orchestras and has been a featured performer before members of the U.S. State Department and the United Nations Council.
Levin has built a reputation as a leading solo and chamber musician. The recipient of an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship for music performance, Levin has completed several albums as a recording artist.
The duo is at the vanguard of the guitar chamber music world, building relationships with contemporary composers with the mission of expanding the duo repertoire. They released their self-titled debut album in Nov. 2010 and were subsequently awarded First Prize at the 2010 Luys Milan International Chamber Music Competition in Valencia, Spain.
Tickets for Duo Sonidos are $25.50 for adults, $21 for students and can be ordered online at www.uwparksidetickets.com or by phone at 262-595-2307.
