UW System PB Poorman/LGBTQ Award nominations open
The University of Wisconsin System is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Dr. PB Poorman Award. The UW System's Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion said faculty, instructional and non-instructional academic staff, classified staff, and registered students are eligible for nomination.
"The award recognizes the distinguished and consistent achievements in service of LGBTQ people within the UW System," said Mark Nook, UW System senior vice president for Academic and Student Affairs. Dr. Nook went on to say the award is presented at the joint UW System LGBTQ/Wisconsin Women's Studies Conference Oct. 18-19, at UW-Madison."
To be considered for the award, nominees must have:
- Significantly furthered the mission, vision ,and goals of the Inclusivity Initiative for LGBTQ People,
- Performed at a high level resulting in distinction for research, teaching, or service regarding LGBTQ issues; and/or
- Published, presented, consulted, advocated, or used creative approaches to address LGBTQ issues in the classroom or in service to students.
Nomination materials should include: a letter of nomination addressing one or more of the criteria, a statement by the nominee on professional contributions and service regarding LGBTQ people or issues (2-page limit), up to three letters of support from colleagues or students, and a current resume or CV documenting the nominee's work in this area.
The award recipient is invited to attend the formal recognition ceremony in Madison along with family and guests. The recipient is also invited to attend the joint UW System LGBTQ/Wisconsin Women's Studies Conference.
Nominees must either be currently employed 50 percent time or greater at a UW System institution as faculty, instructional or non-instructional academic staff, classified staff, or be a registered student at a UW System institution.
