Examining the HLC Visiting Team itinerary
The Higher Learning Commission Visiting Team of Karen Kirkendall, chair, Myron Pope, Suzanne Shipley, Martin Tadlock, Bin Ning, and Paul Ballard won't have much free time while on campus. The itinerary for their April 29-May 1 visit is almost non-stop from 8 a.m. Monday through noon Wednesday.
Here are some highlights:
Monday, April 29
After an introductory meeting involving Chancellor Debbie Ford and the entire HLC Visiting Team, our visitors meet with the university's leadership and review team. Two visiting team members then meet with Finance and Administration, the Provost's Office, Athletics, the deans, University Relations & Advancement, and Enrollment Management.
After dining with the Regents, Drs. Ning and Pope conduct an open forum with staff at 12:15 in Ballroom A of the Student Center. The leadership of each college and the Division of Social Sciences and Professional Studies meet with team members during the afternoon. Representatives from campus technology, the library, professional development, academic staff, classified staff, strategic and academic planning, distance education, and faculty governance round out their afternoon prior to an open forum with students (in the Student Center Oak Room) and faculty (Ballroom A of the Student Center) close the day.
Tuesday, April 30
The HLC Visiting Team starts Tuesday on the east side of campus meeting human resources, facilities management, and business services. Inclusivity and diversity, institutional data, and research integrity follow before student success takes center stage. Members will meet with reps from student affairs, student programs, Graduate Parkside, the Academic Resource Center, the Virtual Student Success Center, and First Year Experience that morning. Student academic policies and financial aid and community outreach will have sessions with the team before Tuesday's noon hour.
The university's graduate programs, its institutional effectiveness, and the Institute of Professional Educator Development are examined in the early afternoon. HLC members then have a phone conference with UW System President Dr. Kevin Reilly before holding an open forum with community members in Ballroom A of the Student Center.
Wednesday, May 1
The HLC Visiting Team holds a 90-minute closed door session to start the day Wednesday. They then meet with UW-Parkside Leadership before the visit comes to a close at noon. The full itinerary for the Higher Learning Commission Visiting Team's stay in Kenosha is available online.
