Enjoy a “Choral Spring”—twice!—at UW-Parkside
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Music Department presents two "Choral Spring" concerts Sunday, May 5, and Sunday, May 12, on the campus located at 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha. Under the direction of Dr. James B. Kinchen Jr., the concerts feature the University Chorale, Master Singers, Voices of Parkside, and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble with guest vocalists the Gifford Elementary School May 5. Both concerts begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Frances Bedford Concert Hall of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities.
"Our own campus choirs will rotate onto the Bedford Hall stage: University Chorale, our all-campus choir; Master Singers, our campus and community choir; Voices of Parkside, our select, auditioned chamber group; and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a group drawn from the choirs to focus specifically on that genre," Dr. Kinchen explained. "Our special guests on May 5 will be UW-Parkside graduate Timothy Keith Griffin and the wonderful choir from Racine's Gifford Elementary School."
Along with medleys from "Westside Story" and "South Pacific," Kinchen said selections include gospel and spiritual songs "Glorious Everlasting," "Living in a Holy City," "The Conversion of Saul," "O Divine Redeemer," "Psalm 96," and "In His Care-O." Favorites "Anthem for Spring," "Italian Street Song," "As Torrents in Summer," and "Wanting Memories" are on the playlist as are the standards "That Old Black Magic," "The Nearness of You," "Les Chansons Des Rose," and "I Carry your Heart with Me."Admission to these afternoons of great music is $10 for adults, $5 for students.
