Prison Outreach Fund seeks donations for textbooks
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Prison Outreach Fund is asking you to help increase the possibility that incarcerated men and women make a successful return to society. The fund seeks donations to buy books and materials for college courses and educational programs at the Racine Correctional Institution (RCI).
"Ninety-seven percent of all prisoners will return to our communities," said UW-Parkside Communication Professor Jonathan Shailor in a recent email to campus. "How do you want them returned to us?"
Dr. Shailor said the first $1,500 contributed will buy enough textbooks to allow him to teach a class in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at RCI in fall 2013. He is the director of UW-Parkside's certificate program in Conflict Analysis & Resolution and teaches at RCI on a volunteer basis without compensation.
