New academic year brings placement testing changes
As we begin to think about the 2013-14 academic year, DeAnn Possehl, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, wants to spotlight a few changes in the placement testing process:
- The web site has been simplified. Students can register online for either regional or local placement testing at www.uwp.edu keyword: placement testing
- Tests will be scored by the UW System Placement Center to ensure the center has a record of tests given both regionally and locally. This will require students to take the test at least 2 weeks prior to the score being needed.
- If a transfer student has previously taken the Wisconsin Placemen Test (within the last several years), we will attempt to find the previous placement scores through the UW System Placement Center. This will help improve our advising of transfer students.
- There is now the ability for students from outside Wisconsin to test remotely. This information is available on the web site.
Possehl added the university continues to use ACT as its primary placement tool for freshmen, however, students may take the Wisconsin Placement Exam. She notes that students with math or English sub-scores near the cut-off may want to consider this option. For more information on the placement testing changes, call Possehl at 262-595-2454.
