WSMA Schools Participating at UW-Parkside
Thousands of Wisconsin middle and high school student musicians converge on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday, May 4, for the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Solo and Ensemble Festival. Running from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and featuring musicians from more than two dozen area schools, the competition is free and open to the public.
"The WSMA State Music Festival is an enriching experience for all participants, both performers and listeners," said Dr. James Crowley, festival manager and UW-Parkside music professor. "This is also an opportunity for us to showcase our newly renovated facilities and emphasize how much we value and support the efforts of our middle and high school colleagues, their students, and their families."
To qualify for a WSMA state music festival, students must earn a "starred first" rating in Class A, the most difficult music, at a WSMA District Music Festival. Participants in grades 6-12, choose from a variety of instrumental and vocal solo and ensemble categories for their performances in district festivals throughout the state. During the past six months, WSMA has held more than 225 such events, involving more participants than any other student activity.
"Wisconsin music students continue to excel in their level of achievement and dedication to excellence," said WSMA Executive Director Tim Schaid. "The WSMA State Music Festival provides a quality opportunity for them to share the talents and skills developed in the classroom while creating a lifelong memory through their state festival performance."
A complete list of schools participating at the UW-Parkside festival is shown below.
The Wisconsin School Music Association serves more than 1,000-member public and private schools. More than 220,000 students participate in WSMA activities each year.
