Spring 2013 commencement celebrated May 18
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside spring 2013 commencement ceremonies take place Saturday, May 18. With well over 400 students eligible to receive their diplomas, there are two ceremonies scheduled: the 10 a.m. program honors graduates from the College of Business, Economics, and Computing and the College of Natural and Health Sciences; the 2:30 p.m. ceremony honors graduates of the College of Arts and Humanities and the Division of Social Sciences and Professional Studies. Both celebrations are in the De Simone Gymnasium of the Sports & Activity Center, located at Highways E and JR in Kenosha.
During the ceremonies, students will be addressed by Froedtert Health President and CEO Catherine Jacobson. Froedtert Health is a regional health-care system based in Milwaukee. Jacobson was named the company's president in 2011 and assumed the CEO title in 2012.
Prior to distribution of diplomas, UW-Parkside will honor two alumni, educator Dr. Mary Shamshoian-Olson ('73, Mathematics) and physician Dr. Jeanne Vedder ('76, Chemistry) with Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards. The university's Distinguished Alumni Service Awards will be received by Racine County Human Resources Director and volunteer extraordinaire Marta Kultgen ('82, Psychology/ Sociology; '90, Master of Public Administration) and SC Johnson employee Rebecca Vojtko ('01, Master of Business Administration).Also during the ceremonies, six students receive Outstanding Graduate Awards. One from a group which includes Nicole Becker, Computer Science; Christopher Dunn, Geography; Catherine Hernandez, Biological Sciences; Robyn Hillberry, Business; Alyssa Kay, Communication and English; and Karisa Laskowski, Fitness Management and Sport Management will be named the Chancellor's Award recipient emblematic of the top student in the Class of 2013.
