Parkside Theatre proudly presents the final weekend of performances of William Shakespeare's romantic comedy "Twelfth Night." In mystical Illyria, Duke Orsino pines for the love of Olivia who refuses all suitors. Nearby, a shipwreck deposits Viola on shore. Disguising herself as the boy "Cesario," Viola finds work in the Duke's house becoming a favorite of Orsino with whom she falls madly in love. Orsino sends "Cesario" to deliver the Duke's love messages to Olivia who becomes smitten with "Cesario."
Director Jamie Cheatham sets this tale in Tinseltown during the '20s and '30s
"Our Illyria is the far-away time and place of Hollywood during the 'Golden Age of Cinema.'" Cheatham said. "This play has a lot of clowns and a lot of song. It was a pleasure and a challenge to write jazz-age music to The Bard's lyrics."
The "Twelfth Night" cast includes Ethan Hall as Orsino, Brenna Kempf as Viola/ Cesario, Rachel Sandlin as Olivia, Alex Metalsky as the sly fool Feste, Michael Zimmermann as Olivia's dour steward Malvolio, Kenjamin Lafayette as the rowdy Sir Toby, Michael Dalberg as Olivia's hapless suitor Sir Andrew, Michael Pfeiffer as Viola's brother Sebastian, and Hayley Cotton as Sebastian's companion Antonia. The stage is also graced by Ben Carlstein, Kevin Duffy, Olivia Kraus, Joe Romanak, Robin Feltman, and Bethanne Duffy.
Original music for these performances was composed by Cheatham with lyrics by Shakespeare. The music is arranged and performed by UW-Parkside student Josh Robinson.Tickets are $17 for adults, $13 for seniors and UW-Parkside faculty and staff, and $8 for students. Again, student tickets for Thursday's performance are just $4. Order tickets online at www.uwparksidetickets.com or call 262-595-2564.
