Grad images: Videoing & Storify-ing commencement
By now, you've seen the almost "instant" videos of UW-Parkside's morning and afternoon commencement ceremonies on the university on YouTube. The commencement story and links to complete videos of both ceremonies were available Saturday evening, May 18, just hours after the 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. graduation programs ended.
Creative Services Manager Don Lintner who, along with audio visual service coordinator Linda Wawiorka, shot hundreds of commencement photos, praised student Justin Helm for his video work. Lintner said as of Tuesday morning, UW-Parkside was the only campus in the system with full length videos of commencement online.
"Ours have been up since Saturday evening," he said.
UW-Parkside Chief Information Officer Dr. Ilya Yakovlev thanked the Creative Services team for what he called their "exemplary work."
Lintner expects galleries of all photos taken by his crew to be on the Creative Services webpage no later than Friday. Users will be able to download full size jpegs of the photos. Check under the University Photos banner for these pictures.
Another view of commencement is now available through Marketing Special Project Associate Julie Evans and the social network Storify. As Evans explains, Storify allows users to create stories or timelines using other social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
"Users search through multiple social networks from one place, and then drag individual elements into stories. Users can re-order the elements and also add text to help give context to the readers."Evans' Storify commencement masterpiece is now available online. She said another 200 images are also available on the university's Facebook page.
