Elise Elmblad competing at Miss Wisconsin Pageant
University of Wisconsin-Parkside student Elise Elmblad is in the midst of a busy week. She is one of 23 young women competing for the title of Miss Wisconsin in Oshkosh. The crowning takes place Saturday, June 22, in the Alberta Kimball Auditorium.
Elmblad was selected as Miss Racine on Jan. 5 during a ceremony at Starbuck Middle School. The title was an important step to a goal she has been pursuing for two years.
"I competed in the Miss Kenosha Pageant the past two years," Elmblad told Ranger Today shortly after winning the title. To capture the crown, she had to conquer her natural shyness. "I've always been a really shy girl, so I really had to overcome that in order to go up on stage."
Elmblad's pageant week began Tuesday evening with an interview. It continues Wednesday evening with swimsuit and the on-stage question; the talent and evening gown portions of the competition are Thursday evening. She will sing "Bring Him Home" from "Les Miserables." More information on the pageant is available online.
An applied health science major with double minors in psychology and biology, the pageant represents something of a homecoming for Elmblad. She started her college career at UW-Oshkosh before transferring to, and falling in love with, the Kenosha campus.
"I love Parkside. I'm glad that a chose to go here," Elmblad said. "One thing I love about Parkside: you get that personal connection. Like I said, I'm a shy girl so I don't really know if my professors even know who I am. Maybe this [the Miss Racine title] will help."A Miss Wisconsin title would be even noticeable. Good luck, Elise!
