2013 Doctors of Our Community
Holly Hess of Racine will enter as a new freshman at UW-Parkside in the Fall of 2013. She is pictured here shortly after her presentation on career interests in the area of medicine. In addition to participating in the Doctors of Our Community at UW-Parkside, Holly recently traveled to Guatemala on a medical mission trip. While abroad Holly served alongside many medical professionals to experience firsthand the career she aspires to. More than that, serving the undeveloped country helped Holly understand the value of education, especially when used to bring medicine to those in need.
Doctors of Our Community is a ten day program that features great hands-on learning and in depth investigation of careers in healthcare provided by our faculty, staff and area professionals. Students conclude the program by presenting their preferred area of study and their motivations in choosing the career. Many of the students participating in the Doctors of Our Community program this summer had very special and personal motivations for pursuing degrees in pre-health at UW-Parkside, with each student presenting them to those gathered.
All six participating high school students regard UW-Parkside as their first choice in a college. The group provided a unified "PARKSIDE" when asked by an audience member where they want to go to college. Doctors of Our Community is an ideal example of providing rich educational opportunities as well as serving as a vital source of student recruitment.
