Beckers Honored at 2013 Fall Convocation
Today UW-Parkside celebrated its 45th year of providing quality higher education during the 2013 Fall Convocation. During the presentation Chancellor Ford introduced a very special guest, UW-Parkside's first graduate, George Becker.
After his service in the Air Force, George was working as part of the construction crew for the new university in Kenosha -- the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He later became the first person to receive a degree from UW-Parkside at the very first commencement ceremony in 1970. George's granddaughter Charley Becker will be attending UW-Parkside this fall and participating in the new Teacher Preparation program, the same program in which he participated.
Chancellor Ford also addressed progress the university has made since last year as well as plans for the future.
