Scholarship says 'Thank you, Dr. Lewis'...literally
Michael Milos may not be your "typical" donor, but the scholarship this UW-Parkside graduate recently established definitely resonates with the university's pre-health students. Although he has just begun his second year of dental school at Marquette University, Michael didn't want to wait to start The Milos Family Pre-Health Scholarship (Thank you, Dr. Lewis). This scholarship has the dual purpose of offering pre-health students the incentive to persevere, but also pays tribute to pre-health advisor, and UW-Parkside faculty member, Dr. Bryan Lewis.
As Michael tells it, "Dr. Lewis was more than an advisor, he was a mentor to me. He offered me encouragement and made me believe that I could be successful. He saw something in me that even I didn't see at the time. I wouldn't be where I am today without his support."
When Michael raised the idea of establishing a scholarship, his brothers quickly jumped on board. As UW-Parkside alumni themselves, brothers Mark and Steven Milos felt strongly that they also wanted to be a part of helping upcoming UW-Parkside students. (Mark is now an attorney and Steven is completing his medical residency.) And so the Milos Family Pre-Health Scholarship came to life.
The scholarship was recently awarded at the university's 36th annual Scholar and Donor Recognition Program on Sept. 16. Christine Hull of Trevor, Wis., is the 2005-2006 recipient of the Milos Family Pre-Health Scholarship.
