UW-Parkside, Southport Bank create new scholarship

UW-Parkside signs scholarship agreement with Southport Bank

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside will offer a new scholarship to students following the signing of an agreement with Southport Bank. Titled the Southport Bank Scholarship in Business, the $1,000 annual scholarship will be awarded for the first time in the 2007-2008 academic year. Southport Bank President Karl Ostby applied his signature to the agreement Jan. 10, 2007.

To be eligible for the scholarship, a recipient must be a continuing undergraduate business major at UW-Parkside with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Preference is given, but not limited, to bank employees and the recipient may reapply each year.

In addition to the 2007-2008 academic year, Southport Bank made a commitment to continue the scholarship for another four years making the total gift $5,000. The funds will be distributed through the UW-Parkside Benevolent Foundation.

Each year, UW-Parkside awards approximately 150 scholarships. For more information and an online application, visit the university's web site at www.uwp.edu key word: scholarships. Business students who apply for UW-Parkside scholarships by Feb. 1, 2007, will be considered for this scholarship.
