McGuckin appointed UW-Parkside Dean of Students

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has announced the appointment of Dr. Tammy McGuckin as Dean of Students. Dr. McGuckin brings 18 years of experience to the position most recently serving as assistant vice president for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola.
Dr. McGuckin said she is "very excited" about joining the UW-Parkside community and working to attain the university's mission.
"I am looking forward to working with the dedicated staff in Student Affairs to fulfill the UW-Parkside Promise," she said. "Through collaborations within and across divisions, we will strive to provide programs and services for students that support the university's academic mission, positively impact retention and persistence to graduation, and promote an inclusive environment.
Dr. McGuckin joined the University of West Florida in 1998 as an assistant director of housing and residence life. She was named assistant vice president for Student Affairs in 2008, adding Dean of Students duties on an interim basis a year later. The interim tag was removed in July 2011. Her doctorate in education was earned at UWF.
She spent the first four years of her professional career at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where she earned her bachelor and master of arts degrees.
As dean of students at UW-Parkside, Dr. McGuckin will support the teaching/ learning process and implement the university's overall mission. She will serve as a contact person for people with questions about university policies and procedures or who may be experiencing difficulties. The office is committed to assisting students in achieving their educational goals and provides them with advice and referrals.
Dr. McGuckin's appointment is effective Aug. 1, 2012. Her office will be located in Wyllie Hall.
